The dependence between the equipment and its hosting building structure, and the impact of power outages are considered. The method is validated using seismic damage data from the Ludian Earthquake.
In the United States, the number one cause of power outage is severe weather. Weather such as thunderstorms, hurricanes, and blizzards account for 58% of outages observed since 20022. Weather-related power outages have increased significantly since 1992 and will continue to increase due to climate change.
In Fig. 6, the causes of base station functional failure (T) are identified: power interruption (I 1), damage to communication room (I 2) (equipment included), and damage to communication towers (I 3).
The communication tower and its antenna equipment are responsible for signal transmission and reception, and their damage directly affects the normal operation of the base station. This study mainly considers tower body damage (X 11) and antenna damage (X 12).
For example, when an earthquake occurs, base stations may reduce their transmission power due to power limitations, resulting in decreased signal quality and limited functionality. Additionally, some base stations can still provide partial signal coverage even in damaged conditions .
