Standardization in the field of wind energy generation systems including wind turbines, wind power plants onshore and offshore and interaction with the electrical system (s) to which energy is supplied.
Besides common horizontal-axis onshore wind power generation, other wind power technologies such as airborne and offshore technologies, smart rotors, and multi-rotors will expand the portfolio of wind energy utilization options .
Fig. 5 is the typical framework of a wind power generation system. For a wind power generation system, the wind turbine is a critical part. Modern wind turbines (Fig. 6) can be divided into horizontal axis wind turbines (HAWT) and vertical axis wind turbines (VAWT).
Results based on a typical plant in China show that the state-of-the-art onshore wind power systems can provide significant reductions in nonrenewable energy use (9.2 MJ/kWh) and GHG emissions (782.8 GtCO 2 /kWh).
II. WIND POWER ENERGY: Wind is an atmospheric phenomenon which occurs due to the heat of the sun. The sun radiates on the Earth a power of 1.74 x 1017 Watts approximately. Only 2% of it is transformed into wind energy. The Earth releases the heat received from the Sun, but this is hardly homogeneous.
