The study revealed that areas with abundant solar energy resources and higher electricity prices have a lower economic risk for rooftop PV system construction under the current subsidy price and cost. This finding provides valuable insights and serves as a reference for constructing rooftop PV systems in different regions of China.

The influence of electricity prices on the economic performance of rooftop PV is also evident in the case of Chengdu. Although Chengdu has a relatively poor situation in terms of PV power generation, its peak electricity price period matches the PV generation curve and the electricity price is higher than the other cities.

For cities with rich solar energy resources (such as Mohe), rooftop PV systems can yield substantial benefits, even under high shading. However, in cities like Urumqi, despite having ample solar energy resources, the on-grid electricity prices are relatively low, leading to much lower investment returns and longer investment payback periods.

Distributed rooftop photovoltaic (PV) cells, in comparison to hydropower and wind generation, use only space and radiation resources and are the least restricted by geography and climate, making them a significant choice for communities looking to create green electricity.

Finally, according to the investigation results of the rooftop PV system construction cost and investment return index, the economic performance analysis model was constructed considering the time value of the capital and electricity prices.
