Lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) has the advantages of environmental friendliness, low price, and good safety performance. It is considered to be one of the most promising cathode materials for lithium ion battery and has been widely used in electric vehicle power battery in China.
LFP Outlook Beyond the current LFP chemistry, adding manganese to the lithium iron phosphate cathode has improved battery energy density to nearly that of nickel-based cathodes, resulting in an increased range of an EV on a single charge.
LiFePO4 prepared by the iron red process usually has poor performance, and the iron phosphate process is most likely to develop into a standard process for the preparation of lithium iron phosphate. The ferrous oxalate method is a common preparation process in the early stage.
