China has invested over USD 50 billion in new PV supply capacity – ten times more than Europe − and created more than 300 000 manufacturing jobs across the solar PV value chain since 2011.
The total cost of a PV power project over its entire life cycle can be calculated using the following equation: (6) C = C i + C O & M + C tax + C f where Ctax is the tax costs, Cf is the revenue from the financial cost.
The PV electricity costs vary significantly among provinces. In the economically developed eastern provinces, the PV electricity (mainly BIPV) is 0.67–0.86 RMB/kWh. This rate is close to grid parity owing to high grid prices, but the CO 2 mitigation cost is high (456–693 RMB/Mg CO 2).
The results show that in the absence of subsidies, the price of PV power generation in all cities is lower than the price of grid electricity supply, and about 22 % of the cities can realize grid parity on the generation side.
The price of photovoltaics (PV) has been steadily decreasing over the last decade, and many reports suggest that PV has become considerably cheaper than conventional electricity sources. In this paper, we critically evaluate the PV grid parity and use China as a case study.
Despite these improvements, absolute carbon dioxide (CO 2) emissions from solar PV manufacturing have almost quadrupled worldwide since 2011 as production in China has expanded. Nonetheless, solar PV manufacturing represented only 0.15% of energy-related global CO 2 emissions in 2021.
