Free QuoteConnected wind farms as per Eirgrid and ESB Networks reports which correspond to the wind farm layer on the SEAI Wind Atlas. (See references at description end.) 1) Grid coordinates of substations have been used where the wind farm grid coordinates were not available in the planning application information.
However, as a substation may or may not be located within the site of the wind farm it serves, it should be noted that the precise accuracy of this coordinate information cannot be assured. 2) Possible stand-alone projects not intended for connection to the Irish electricity grid are not included in this map.
Ireland produces 11.224 TWh from wind energy, which accounts for 34.4% of the country's electricity consumption. The 2023 update to the Climate Action Plan increased the indicative 2030 target for offshore wind energy to 7GW, with 2GW for hydrogen production, to contribute to meeting an increased overall 80% renewable electricity target.
The wind atlas for Ireland is calculated for different heights above ground level on a nationwide 100 metre grid basis. The standard Atlas displays onshore wind speeds at 20, 30, 40, 50, 75, 100, 125 and 150 metres above ground level, based on 2013 data.
