A study commissioned by the East African Community whose report was issued in 2011 identified a number of regional power generation projects that could be undertaken to tackle the challenge of power supply shortages in the region both in the short term and in the long term.
Its membership presently comprises Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, the DRC, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Power trade under the auspices of this pool presently ranges from 6% to 15% of the power generated in the region.
