The 5G base station products must pass all of the test requirements prior to their release. Otherwise, the products are not 3GPP-compatible or appropriate to implement in a network. 3GPP defines the radio frequency (RF) conformance test methods and requirements for NR base stations in the technical specifications.
Certain factors need to be taken into consideration while dealing with the efficiency of energy. Some of the prominent factors are such as traffic model, SE, topological distribution, SINR, QoS and latency. To properly examine an energy-optimised network, it is very crucial to select the most suitable EE metric for 5G networks.
However, testing is complicated due to the range of frequencies, bandwidths, and deployment modes that devices and networks support. In conjunction with 5G NR, private base stations (BS) can support connectivity for diferent spectrum bands (sub-GHz, 1 to 6 GHz, or mmWave).
The 5G BS power consumption mainly comes from the active antenna unit (AAU) and the base band unit (BBU), which respectively constitute BS dynamic and static power consumption. The AAU power consumption changes positively with the fluctuation of communication traffic, while the BBU power consumption remains basically unchanged, , .
